Does the Military Really pay off?

I was in the Navy for 5 years, as an electronics tech. Since I have been out, I have only been in college. I looked for jobs but found nothing that really suited me or made us of my skills. I heard that many oil companies hire military people. Are there other companies that are very military friendly? Mean ing I can apply and hopefully just get an interview?
